Blindness in pets

I've had several patients throughout the years that are completely blind like this kitten and it is very difficult to tell.  I think animals extra-visual perception is much more keen than ours is.  Many people are reluctant to surgically remove diseased, non-visual, painful eyes in their pets. Prothesis eyes are available by referral to a veterinary ophthalmologist, but surgical removal is a less expensive option.
