Social and Environmental Investment

We strongly believe that business, especially small business, can be a powerful vehicle for change. We carefully choose the services we offer and the products we sell, to reflect our family's values of compassion, responsibility, and self-reliance. Pandosy Village Veterinary Hospital is 100% green powered, and donates 1% of our sales to environmental causes, and 0.7% of our after-tax profits to fight HIV.
Our success as an enterprise is measured on more than one bottom line. So it makes sense that Pandosy Village Veterinary Hospital's financials are tied directly to societal contributions.
Vulnerable Children - Fighting HIV in Ethiopia
A cause near and dear to our family's hearts is the epidemic of HIV in Africa. When we planned our business, we decided that we would meet Stephen Lewis' challenge to donate 0.7% of our after-tax profits to fight HIV. We plan on donating through our manager Arnica's charity Vulnerable Children Society at year end, where she will target our funds to support children and families challenged by extreme poverty and HIV.
1% for the Planet - Environmental Action
Pandosy Village Veterinary Hospital joined other responsible and environmentally conscientious companies such as Patagonia, Clif Bars, and Jack Johnson as a member of the 1% for the Planet organization. In fact, we were only the second veterinary hospital member in North America. To this day, we continue to donate 1% of all our private label product sales to environmental causes. After three years participating, we decided that we wanted to donate the entire 1% instead of paying fees to though the marketing organization. Each Christmas on behalf of our clients, we donate 1% of our privately label product sales on behalf of our clients to the David Suzuki Foundation and other local environmental causes.
100% Green Powered - Bullfrog Power

Did you know that our hospital is powered by 100% renewable and sustainable energy?
British Columbia has huge wind, tidal, and non-invasive microhydro power potential, which is not being invested in by our public utility. So we have decided to invest in companies, including First Nation-owned enterprises, that are harvesting the power of clean, renewable energy. We pay Bullfrog Power a monthly fee to ensure the kilowatt hours our business uses are covered on the power grid by wind, low-impact hydro (not dams!) and biogas generation.
