Spring Allergies - We Can Help!

There are few chronic health conditions more frustrating for pet parents than allergies. Not only is your cat or dog uncomfortable, but your life is interrupted by continual food switching, late night scratching, etc..
Let’s get you off the allergy treadmill and address your best furry friend’s allergies from the inside out.
Our Holistic Approach to Allergy Treatment
Pet parents often try to rid their pet’s body of food allergens first, but this is usually only a part of the picture. Environmental allergens contribute to approximately 70% of allergic responses, so most pets cannot control their allergies with food changes alone.
Our approach at Pandosy Village Veterinary Hospital uses a combination of conventional medicine, Traditional Chinese medicine and food therapy to knock back any secondary infections, lower the presence of known allergens and calm down the inflammatory response triggered by allergies.
Dr. Jason can help you navigate the options and will recommend the best approach to the achieve maximum possible results for your particular pet. Here are some of the therapies we offer...
Conventional Medicine: Immunosuppressants, Antibiotics and Antifungals
Immunosuppressants can be used to dampen the immune system and lower the allergic response. When secondary infections occur (such as skin infections) antibiotics and antifungals can be used to kill the harmful bacteria and/or fungus.
Traditional Chinese Medicine: Herbs and Acupuncture
Traditional Chinese herbal medicine has been used for millennia to lower the immune system response, decrease inflammation and desensitize the body to allergens.
Herbs are chosen based on your pet’s specific symptoms and constitution. Herbal medicine is a long-term solution, although the selected herbs may change over time as your pet’s body changes.
Acupuncture is effective option in combination with herbs, to relieve short term discomfort and balance the body to react more appropriately to allergens over the long term.
Nutraceutical Support: Fish Oil and Probiotics
The high dose of EPA in our Pandosy Village Vet Omega 3 fish oil soothes the inflammatory response. Our fish oil is super-concentrated, sourced from small white-fleshed fish in the North Sea, and does not contain heavy mineral contamination.
We use probiotics to replenish the good bacteria in the intestinal tract after antibiotic use, to support digestion and to encourage appropriate immune responses.
Nutritional Therapy: Rare and Cooling Proteins
Rather than going on an endless cycle of trying different proteins every eight weeks, we recommend either rare protein diets that your pet hasn’t been exposed to, or cooling proteins that dampen inflammation.
Dr. Jason can help you find the right food for your pet. Some of the diet options we have right in our Pounce & Hound Fine Pet Goods store include:
